Severe Thunderstorm Strikes Vermilion Area, Causing Widespread Damage and Power Outages

A Severe thunderstorm swept through the Vermilion area this afternoon, bringing 50 mph winds that wreaked havoc on trees and structures. The storm caused significant damage across the region, with one house on the east end of Vermilion-on-the-Lake (VOL) suffering heavy damage after a tree fell on top of it.

The majority of Liberty Avenue was plunged into darkness for several hours as the storm knocked out power to three major areas in the Greater Vermilion area, leaving over 6,500 residents without electricity. Vermilion roads were littered with debris and fallen branches, creating hazardous driving conditions.

Local police and fire departments were kept busy throughout the storm, responding to numerous calls related to the storm’s impact and damage. Emergency services worked tirelessly to manage the situation and ensure public safety.

Residents are urged to exercise caution while navigating the affected areas and to report any downed power lines or other hazards to the authorities. Cleanup and restoration efforts are underway as the community works together to recover from the storm’s aftermath.
