Joe Delmonico, a name synonymous with barbering in Vermilion, Ohio, has seen and experienced a lot in his 50-year career. With barbering in his blood, Joe is joined by four other barbers in his family: his son, grandson, and his grandson’s best friend. This legacy of hair care excellence is rooted deeply in their collective dedication to the craft.
Joe arrived in Vermilion in 1974, and since then, he has been a cornerstone of the community. Located at 4500 Liberty Avenue, Suite #4, right across from the Bowling Alley, Joe’s shop is a local institution. The shop operates six days a week, closing only on Sundays. Fridays and Saturdays are their busiest days when all four barbers are on staff to cater to the needs of their loyal clientele.
Over the past five decades, Joe has witnessed numerous changes and challenges. The departure of the Ford plant and the COVID-19 pandemic significantly impacted his business. The pandemic forced a temporary shutdown and imposed stringent restrictions on barbershops, which affected his operations. However, with resilience and determination, Joe’s business has bounced back, and things have returned to normal.
Every morning, five days a week, Joe opens his shop at 5 am, ready to greet each customer with a smile and a warm hello. The TV often features classic shows or the latest news, setting a comfortable and nostalgic ambiance. The conversations are engaging, and the quality of the haircuts speaks for itself.
Having been a customer since the age of 12, I can attest to the exceptional experience Joe provides. The friendly atmosphere and personalized service make every visit feel like coming home.
Next time you need a haircut, head over to Delmonico’s barbershop. And when you do, be sure to tell them Vermilion Daily sent you.
I’m there once every two months only place I go. I always try to get there first thing Saturday morning. By far the best hair cut I get. Would never go anywhere else ..
I have been in the chair many times. I like the early start. Any one of the four do an excellent job. I have know Joe for many years. He is the best around.
