VERMILION, OHIO — The 2025 Lorain County Lincoln Day Dinner drew more than 500 guests to German’s Villa on May 2 to see Vivek Ramaswamy, but the spotlight of the evening fell squarely on one man — Mike Bokulich, who was named Republican of the Year by the Lorain County Republican Party.

Bokulich, a local business owner and longtime conservative figure, was honored for his leadership in both the party and the broader community, including his role with the Lunch Bunch of Lorain County, a group known for grassroots political engagement.

The award was presented onstage by a lineup of prominent Republican leaders: State Senator Nathan Manning, Speaker Pro Tempore of the Ohio House, representing the 52nd district Gayle Manning, State Representative Kellie Deeter, and State Senator Theresa Gavarone — all of whom joined together in honoring Bokulich’s years of dedication to the Republican Party and Lorain County. Their collective presence reflected the weight of the moment and the widespread respect Bokulich has earned.

Vivek Ramaswamy, who delivered the keynote earlier in the evening, remained on stage during the award presentation and offered a personal congratulations to Bokulich, calling him a “community anchor.”

Taking the podium, Bokulich opened by stating, “It’s all about fighting for America — and as Vivek said, the American Dream.” He then shared the story of his father, who immigrated from Yugoslavia in 1912 and was initially turned away before eventually gaining entry to the U.S. Bokulich expressed pride in those who persevered to build new lives in America.

He also gave heartfelt thanks to his wife, Andrea, recalling how they met in grade school, reconnected later in life, and how he rushed to her prom while still in the Navy. Soon after leaving the service, they married — a personal story that earned warm applause from the room.

The remainder of his speech focused on celebrating the people in the room whom he viewed as living examples of the American Dream. He closed with a nod to recent progress, saying, “We’ve done a lot of good the last couple of years in Lorain County,” and commended the Lorain County Commissioners, noting that each is a successful businessman who brings valuable real-world experience to the job.

Bokulich also received a formal commendation from the Ohio Senate, introduced by Senator Nathan Manning and signed by Senate President Matt Huffman. The proclamation praised Bokulich’s “civic commitment, leadership, and selfless service” and stated, “Your actions have undoubtedly earned the esteem and respect of your fellow citizens.”

Bokulich’s recognition as Republican of the Year reflects not only his dedication to the party, but also the enduring relationships he’s built and the respect he’s earned across Lorain County. His story that’s grounded in service, family, and community; continues to inspire a new generation of local leaders who look to him as a steady, principled example of what it means to lead with conviction and heart.
