According to a press release from the Vermilion Local School District Board of Education, the board unanimously approved Wes Weaver as the district’s next superintendent during its regular meeting Monday, Feb. 9, 2026.
Weaver has served as interim superintendent since October 2025. He will remain in the interim role until his superintendent contract begins Aug. 1, 2026, according to the board.

In its announcement, the board said it is confident Weaver will continue focusing on student success, relationship-building, facility improvements and school safety.
A few details about Weaver
Before becoming interim superintendent, Weaver served as the district’s assistant superintendent and curriculum director. Prior to coming to Vermilion, he spent much of his career at Licking Valley High School in Newark, Ohio, including time as principal. The district also noted Weaver is a veteran of the Ohio Air National Guard.
Weaver’s statement
“I’m excited to continue in my role,” Weaver wrote in a quote provided via text message. “Over the past 3 years, I’ve come to appreciate the students, staff and families of Vermilion. I’m passionate about serving them to the best of my abilities and moving the district forward. We will have our share of challenges, but I welcome the opportunity to meet them head on alongside my colleagues and community.”
The board concluded by inviting the community to congratulate and welcome Weaver as the next superintendent of Vermilion Local Schools.
