Donald Lee Fischer, a lifelong resident of Vermilion, left this world peacefully on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at the age of 82, surrounded by the love of his family after a lengthy illness.
Born on February 17, 1942, in Vermilion, Donald’s life was a testament to dedication, service, and the simple joys found in family, friendship, and community. A proud veteran, he served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era, embodying the values of courage and commitment that would define his life.

Donald built a fulfilling career at Wakefield Brass Company, where he worked as a supervisor until his well-earned retirement. His leadership and strong work ethic left a lasting impact on those he worked alongside. Beyond his professional life, Donald found true camaraderie through his involvement with Amvets Post 22, American Legion Post 397, VFW Post 7576, and the Amherst Eagles.
When he wasn’t giving back to his community, Donald embraced the outdoors with a love for golfing and fishing, sharing many of these moments with family and friends. His greatest joy, however, was the time spent with his cherished loved ones, creating memories filled with laughter, stories, and genuine connection.
Donald’s legacy lives on through his devoted wife of 56 years, Kathy Fischer, and his beloved daughter, Elizabeth “Beth” Russell, along with her husband, Andrew Russell, all of Vermilion. He is also lovingly remembered by his sister, Lynn Tucker; brothers-in-law, Donald Whitt and Richard Whitt; and many dear nieces and nephews whose lives he touched with warmth and kindness.
He now joins in eternal rest with his parents, Edward and Ruth (née Bringman) Fischer, and his brother-in-law, Kenneth Tucker, whose memories remain alive in the hearts of those who knew and loved them.
Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Donald’s life on February 8, 2025, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. at VFW Post 397, 7576 Poorman Road, Vermilion, OH 44089. This gathering will honor not just the years he lived but the way he lived—fully, generously, and with a heart for others.
Private inurnment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Donald’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959, supporting a cause close to his heart.
