VERMILION TWP — A death investigation is underway after a pedestrian was discovered early Sunday morning on State Route 2 near the State Route 60 interchange in Vermilion Township.
According to initial reports, a caller notified authorities around 3:15 a.m. that a person was lying in the westbound lanes of SR2. A second caller later reported seeing what appeared to be a body on the side of the roadway.
The Erie County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Vermilion Police Department, and Vermilion Township Fire Department responded to the scene. Riddle Funeral Home in Vermilion was notified and is assisting.
Authorities have not released the identity of the individual or provided details about the circumstances surrounding the incident. The Erie County Sheriff’s Office is expected to lead the investigation, with assistance from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
