MARENGO, OH — May 26, 2025 — A 25-year-old sheriff’s deputy was killed Monday morning in Morrow County following an officer-involved shooting at a residence in the 100 block of County Road 26.

According to a statement from Morrow County Sheriff John L. Hinton, the incident began when the Sheriff’s Office received a call reporting a domestic situation. When the responding deputy arrived at the residence, an exchange of gunfire occurred. The deputy was struck and transported to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The suspect was also shot and remains hospitalized in serious condition.

“There are no words to express the pain being felt by our office,” Sheriff Hinton stated.

The Ohio Attorney General’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office are handling the investigation, which remains ongoing. Authorities have not yet released the deputy’s name pending notification of family.

The tragic loss has shaken the Morrow County community and law enforcement agencies across the state. Social media has since filled with tributes, prayers, and expressions of support for the deputy’s family and the sheriff’s office.

Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available from official sources.
