Vermilion’s team delivered a stunning performance at the Ohio Indoor Performance Association (OIPA) State Championships on March 29, 2025, at Wapakoneta High School, earning an impressive second-place finish.
Winterguard is a dynamic combination of dance, performance, and equipment handling, often described as “color guard on steroids” due to its complexity compared to the fall season. The team spends the winter months traveling and competing across Ohio, showcasing their talent in highly choreographed routines.

This year’s show, Whispers of the Forgotten Circus, told the haunting tale of circus performers trapped in an endless cycle of performance beneath the moonlight. The intricate routine captivated audiences and judges alike, demonstrating the team’s dedication and artistry.
“Our members worked incredibly hard to bring this vision to life,” said coach Jordan Luce. “Many of them were balancing multiple commitments, including the school musical, making their achievement even more remarkable.”
The team consisted of 11 members and was guided by advisors Brittany Missig and Jordan Luce. Luce credited Missig with playing a crucial role in shaping the team’s success. “Brittany has truly brought this program to life with her creative vision and expertise. None of this would be possible without her.”
A special shout-out goes to Jordan and Brittany for their consistency and dedication to this program. As the program leaders this year, they have done an outstanding job mentoring and inspiring these students, leading them to success year after year.
Vermilion’s Winterguard continues to push the boundaries of performance art, and their success at the state level is a testament to their talent and dedication.
