Glass Fragments Prompt Bread Recall at Giant Eagle Stores—What Vermilion Shoppers Need to Know

A nationwide bread recall has reached Ohio—and possibly Vermilion—after reports that loaves sold at Giant Eagle and other retailers may contain glass fragments.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced a recall of several frozen bread products distributed by Upper Crust Bakery LP due to the potential contamination. The affected items were shipped to stores in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, Connecticut, and California. Though Giant Eagle has not confirmed which specific locations carried the bread, Vermilion shoppers are being urged to check their pantries.

The recall includes:

  • Multigrain Sourdough Bread (18 oz, Lot #90)
  • Ancient Grains Hoagie Rolls (4 oz, Lot #90)
  • Whole Grain Multigrain Bread (20 oz, Lot #92)

Each is packaged in corrugated paper cartons. These products could cause choking or injuries if glass is ingested. While the FDA has classified this as a Class II recall—meaning health issues are possible but not likely to be severe—customers are still advised to act with caution.

There have been no reports of injuries so far. Anyone who bought one of the listed products should return it to the store for a full refund or dispose of it immediately.

Vermilion shoppers with questions can visit Giant Eagle’s product recall page for updates.

If you’re unsure whether the recall affects you, experts recommend checking your freezer for any Upper Crust Bakery frozen breads purchased recently.
