Hawaii Ice: Now Bringing the Aloha Spirit to Vermilion, One Cup at a Time

UPDATE: Now, Hawaii Ice is giving back to the community in a new way. Owner Jen has announced a school supply donation initiative to support local students. “If any kid needs school supplies refreshed, just swing by the truck. My constant hours are 6 to 9 AM, Monday through Friday, in the high school lot by the football field,” she shared. Thanks to generous donations from local businesses, students can pick up essential supplies like calculators, paper, and more—first come, first served. The giveaway will continue until supplies run out.

Vermilion native Jennifer Karres is serving up more than just refreshing treats—she’s bringing a taste of Hawaii and a whole lot of Aloha Spirit to Northeast Ohio.

Jennifer, a 2006 Vermilion High School graduate, founded Hawaii Ice in August 2019 after living in Hawaii—her 49th state on a journey of exploration, conservation, and adventure. Inspired by the islands’ flavors and culture, she returned to her hometown to share what she had discovered.

Jennifer is expanding Hawaii Ice beyond its signature shaved ice by adding a hot and cold drink menu, making it a go-to stop for busy parents and commuters. Whether you need a smooth Kona cold brew to kickstart your morning or a warm chai latte to take the edge off a chilly Ohio day, she’s got you covered. For parents dropping their kids off at Vermilion High School, the convenience of drive-thru service means grabbing a morning pick-me-up has never been easier. With rotating tea flavors, energy-boosting Mana Tea, and even signature hot cocoa for the little ones, Hawaii Ice is quickly becoming more than just a summer treat—it’s an all-season stop for the whole family.

You can now catch Jennifer and her bright blue Hawaii Ice truck at the Vermilion High School Football Field parking lot, Monday through Friday from 6 AM to 9 AM (or later based on demand). Customers are encouraged to stay in their car and use their convenient drive-thru service.

Authentic Hawaiian Flavors & More

Hawaii Ice isn’t just another shaved ice stand. Each flavor is handcrafted with premium ingredients straight from the islands, giving customers an authentic taste of Hawaii at fair prices. And while the classic Hawaiian treat is a staple, Jennifer’s menu has expanded to include hot and cold drinks. For those with a sweet tooth, homemade pastries and treats are also available—just ask!

More Than Just a Business—A Mission

Jennifer’s passion for travel, the environment, and wildlife conservation is deeply embedded in Hawaii Ice’s operations. The business takes pride in its eco-friendly approach, using biodegradable cups and spoons while skipping plastic straws.

Beyond sustainability, Jennifer hopes her story inspires others to follow their dreams—just as she did when she set off across the country, eventually leading her to Hawaii. “It’s more than a treat, it’s a way of life,” she says. “I call it the Aloha Spirit—relax, spread kindness, and enjoy life’s simple pleasures.”

Experience Hawaii Ice for Yourself

Whether you’re looking for a cool refresher on a hot day or a rich Kona coffee to kickstart your morning, Hawaii Ice has something for everyone. Stop by, say aloha, and experience a real taste of Hawaii—right here in Vermilion.
