High-Speed Chase Ends in Violent Crash and Felony Charges on State Route 2

VERMILION, Ohio — A high-speed pursuit involving a wrong-way driver ended in a violent crash and multiple felony charges Sunday evening, June 22, on State Route 2 near Baumhart Road.

Emergency dispatch logs show that the first calls came in around 5:04 p.m., when a silver sedan was reported traveling the wrong way on SR-2 near Baumhart. Witnesses described the vehicle weaving through traffic and causing a two-vehicle crash. Multiple agencies, including the Vermilion Police Department and Lifecare EMS, responded to the scene.

According to police reports, the suspect vehicle, driven by Felix Lamb, repeatedly rammed a blue sedan while traveling at speeds over 100 miles per hour. Officers observed the silver sedan weaving between lanes, passing on both shoulders, and narrowly avoiding collisions with other vehicles.

The pursuit ended violently near the Baumhart Road interchange when Lamb’s vehicle struck a brown SUV, forcing it to roll through the median and into the westbound lanes. Lamb’s car then went airborne over an embankment and landed in a marshy ditch off the highway.

Lamb, injured and bleeding from the head, was found crawling through tall grass by Officer Benjamin Sargent of the Vermilion Police Department. He initially ignored commands but eventually complied after stating he could not feel his limbs. Lamb exhibited erratic behavior at the scene, laughing, crying, and making disjointed statements about music videos, the drug trade, and being in Australia. Officers noted a strong odor of marijuana coming from his vehicle, and Lamb admitted to “smoking too much today.”

Sgt. Sargent, along with Patrolman Chrapczynski, took Lamb into custody and ensured he received medical attention. EMS transported him to University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center for treatment. He has not been transported to the Lorain County Jail as of this writing.

Lamb now faces a series of charges, including:

  • Three counts of felonious assault (F2)
  • Failure to comply with a police order (F3)
  • Obstructing official business (F5)
  • Speeding (100 in a 70)
  • Reckless operation
  • Improper passing
  • Leaving the scene of an accident

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is handling the crash and OVI investigation. One person from the other vehicle was also taken to the hospital. The westbound lanes of State Route 2 were temporarily shut down near Oak Point Road as emergency crews cleared the scene.

Body camera footage recorded portions of the incident, and formal use-of-force and pursuit reports have been submitted. Vermilion Police credited the quick coordination of multiple agencies, including Lifecare EMS, Amherst Police, and Lorain County Sheriff’s Office, for helping to manage the chaotic scene.
