Donnie Raines, 72, of South Amherst, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, February 21, 2025, after a brief illness.
Born on September 1, 1952, in Grundy, Virginia, Donnie later made his home in South Amherst for the past 6 years, previously residing in Florence Township and Vermilion.
A proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Donnie served during the Vietnam War. He dedicated 31 years to Ford Motor Company, working in both Lorain, Ohio, and Louisville, Kentucky, before retiring in 2004.
Donnie was a past attendee of the Church of the Nazarene in Vermilion and a member of UAW Local #862 in Kentucky and a past member of Local #425, Lorain. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, boating, and camping-pastimes that brought him great joy.
He is survived by his brother, Larry Raines of LaRue, OH; sisters, Patricia Mejak and Rosemary Burch of Collins, OH; step-sister, Lujuana Archer of Marion, AR; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Lizzie (née Lester) Raines, his brothers, Eddie and Johnnie Carl Raines; nephews, Christopher and Benjamin; and his niece, Jackie.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Feb. 28, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the Vermilion Church of the Nazarene, 14907 Kneisel Rd, Vermilion, OH 44089. Inurnment will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery in Vermilion at a later date.
