PRESS RELEASE: Jean Anderson Announces Candidacy for Vermilion Mayor: ‘The People’s Mayor’

PRESS RELEASE FOR MAYORAL CANDIDATE, CITY OF VERMILION
FEB 6, 2025

The people of Vermilion are fed-up with the behavior and decisions of our current Mayor; I am one of those people. Therefore, I have decided to run as ‘The People’s Mayor’, so that we can redirect the trajectory for our current and future priorities.

The frustrations have become struggles for many Vermilion families. We struggle with high utility bills, with a promise for future increases; we struggle with very poorly maintained roads, without a long-term plan to solve the negligence; we struggle with a PUD (planned unit development) granted to a developer to add 670 homes to our cherished rural area without listening to residents and school districts; and we face the possibility of the City Council and Mayor approving a TIF for this development. We find our Mayor serving as our Safety Director to be unacceptable.

We need to find solutions that result in the best outcomes for our well-being, and our wallets! Taking a back seat and remaining silent is not the solution. This is the time for ‘WE THE PEOPLE’ to get involved, and I intend to do my part.

Respectfully,
Jean Anderson
