The April 2, 2025, Vermilion Township Board of Trustees meeting began with significant leadership changes. Trustee Bob Kurtz and Township Administrator Keith Sexton had both resigned after accepting positions in the private sector. Kurtz’s exit was particularly notable, as he had assured voters during his campaign that he was capable of handling all his responsibilities—only to resign in a disorderly fashion, raising questions about his commitment.

With Kurtz gone, Trustee Scott struggled to run the meeting and required assistance with the initial proceedings, casting obvious doubt on his leadership abilities to lead a public meeting. Trustees went into recess. In recess, Scott and Trustee Baughman voted to appoint Don Rowe Sr. as the new township trustee. Rowe was promptly sworn in and assumed his official duties for the remainder of the meeting. His appointment marks a shift in township leadership, but concerns remain about Scott’s ability to effectively manage ongoing affairs as a Trustee.
