Elyria, OH – June 3, 2025 – The Lorain County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday approved a vital agreement with Beyond Guardianship Services, an Elyria-based organization dedicated to providing crucial support for vulnerable adults in the county. This service goes beyond standard guardianship, offering a unique approach that even helps seniors fulfill their “last wishes.”
The Commissioners authorized a $20,000 purchase service agreement with Beyond Guardianship Services, effective retroactively from June 1, 2025, through September 30, 2025. This funding, drawn from Title XX Social Service Block Grant funds, is part of a larger annual allocation of approximately $60,000 that supports this critical program.
Officials at the meeting emphasized the immense importance of this service for Adult Protective Services (APS) clients. Beyond Guardianship steps in to provide guardianship for individuals who may have no family, or whose existing family members are not appropriate to serve as guardians, ensuring their well-being and protection.
What makes this program particularly noteworthy is its commitment to the dignity and individual desires of those it serves. Beyond Guardianship works to fulfill unique personal requests for seniors under their care. As an example shared during the meeting, the service arranged for a classic car drive-by outside a gentleman’s window, bringing joy by honoring his lifelong interest.

With June being recognized as Adult Protection Awareness Month, the Commissioners’ approval of this agreement underscores Lorain County’s dedication to supporting its most vulnerable residents and ensuring they receive compassionate and comprehensive care. The partnership between Lorain County Job & Family Services and Beyond Guardianship Services exemplifies a proactive approach to utilizing federal aid effectively to meet critical community needs.
