Vermilion – Emergency crews responded to a serious crash Tuesday evening near Subway on Liberty Avenue in Vermilion. Police say a car turning into a driveway collided with a moped traveling eastbound, leaving the rider critically injured.

According to the Vermilion Police Department, officers arrived shortly after 6:20 p.m. and found the moped operator unresponsive but breathing. He was treated at the scene by Vermilion Fire and LifeCare EMS before being taken by helicopter to Cleveland MetroHealth with severe injuries.

Witnesses told police the vehicle was turning into a nearby business driveway when the crash occurred. The Ohio State Highway Patrol is leading the investigation. Liberty Avenue was temporarily closed in both directions while emergency crews worked the scene.

Several friends of the family shared condolences online Tuesday night, though authorities have not yet released an official update on the rider’s condition. Out of respect for those involved, names are being withheld until confirmation is made by officials.

Vermilion Daily is in contact with the Ohio State Highway Patrol for an official update. The investigating officer is currently off duty, and the report is still being finalized. An update will be published once confirmation is received from the patrol.

Reporting on this incident is not about placing blame. It serves as a reminder that while not every circumstance can be controlled, attentiveness and care on the road are within everyone’s power. Awareness and patience remain the best tools for keeping our community safe.
