Players of the Week: Alyssa Woodward and Bella Phillips

As the winter sports season heats up, Vermilion athletes are making waves with their stellar performances. This week, we celebrate two outstanding juniors who have dominated in their respective sports: Alyssa Woodward on the wrestling mat and Bella Phillips on the bowling lanes.

Alyssa Woodward – Wrestling

Alyssa Woodward continues to prove why she is one of the fiercest competitors on the Vermilion girls’ wrestling team. With an impressive record of 23-6, Alyssa leads the team in wins and bonus point victories. Remarkably, 22 of her 23 wins have come by way of fall, showcasing her relentless skill and determination.

This past Sunday, Alyssa added another chapter to her stellar season by going undefeated at the Chippewa tournament. She earned a perfect 5-0 record, including dominant wins in the semifinals and finals over two state-ranked opponents. Her outstanding performance not only solidified her as a top contender but also fueled her momentum heading into the second half of the season. Alyssa’s ascent in the rankings is a testament to her hard work, talent, and drive to succeed.

Bella Phillips – Bowling

On the bowling lanes, Bella Phillips is making her mark as one of the top athletes in the SBC Conference. During the SBC Conference Tournament, Bella delivered a standout performance with games of 222, 184, and 189, earning her a 595 series. This remarkable showing placed Bella on the prestigious “All Tournament Team” as she finished with the third-highest series of the tournament.

Bella’s consistency and skill were on full display throughout the competition, earning her recognition as one of the top bowlers in the region. As the daughter of Bob and Olivia Phillips, Bella continues to make her family and school proud with her dedication to the sport and ability to shine under pressure.

Recognizing Excellence

Both Alyssa and Bella embody the spirit of Vermilion athletics, showcasing hard work, resilience, and a commitment to excellence. As they move deeper into their seasons, their performances serve as an inspiration to their peers and the community.

At Vermilion Local Schools, our vision is clear: “Every adult helping every child succeed today, tomorrow, and beyond.” Alyssa and Bella are living examples of that mission in action.

Congratulations to Alyssa Woodward and Bella Phillips—our Players of the Week!
