Police Respond to Report of DoorDash Driver With Visible Firearm in Vermilion

Vermilion police responded to a report of a suspicious person on August 19, 2025, after a resident expressed concern about a delivery driver openly carrying a firearm while making a DoorDash delivery.

The call came in around 3:21 p.m. from a home on Douglas Street. According to the report, the resident told dispatchers she had placed a DoorDash order and became uneasy when the driver circled the area for five to ten minutes before completing the delivery. She also reported that the driver, described as a Black male driving a black Chevrolet Silverado, had a holstered firearm visible on his hip and continued messaging her through the DoorDash app without closing out the order.

When officers arrived, the driver had already left the area. The resident provided a temporary Ohio plate number to officers, who documented the information for reference.

Police confirmed there was no indication that any laws were broken. Ohio is an open-carry state, meaning individuals may legally carry a visible firearm without a permit in most situations. However, the report was taken seriously due to the driver’s unusual behavior and the resident’s concerns for safety.

Police documented the incident and no further action was taken.
