Vermilion Township — The Vermilion Township trustee race is officially settled after an automatic recount confirmed Keith Sexton as one of the winners in this year’s local election.

The recount, completed Wednesday by the Erie County Board of Elections, upheld the original results from Election Night. Sexton was one of nine candidates seeking two open trustee seats in Vermilion Township. Incumbent Don Rowe secured the other seat.

Sexton provided a statement following the certification of the recount results, thanking voters and outlining his approach as he prepares to join township leadership.

“I want to take this moment to thank everyone who helped me with my campaign. I would especially like to thank the voters in Vermilion Township who placed their trust in me to be a voice for the residents,” Sexton said.

“I am truly humbled by the support everyone has given me. As an incoming trustee, I will listen to the residents’ concerns and put the best interests of the township residents first. As we move forward as a township, I look forward to helping provide stability to Vermilion Township. I will support key infrastructure improvements, safety services, vital township functions, and help bring down the cost of government to provide the best value to the taxpayers.”

The Vermilion Township Board of Trustees oversees core township services, budgeting, maintenance, and safety operations. Sexton will begin his four-year term in January, following certification of the final election results.
