Robert A. Brummer, aged 67, passed away on the morning of April 7 th , at Dublin Methodist Hospital in Delaware, Ohio, following an extended illness. He had resided in several locations during his lifetime, with Vermilion, Ohio, being considered his home.
Robert was born on May 4, 1957, in Jersey City, New Jersey. Brummer’s Confectionary was his family’s business, opening in 1904. It was there that he developed the love of making chocolates and ice cream with his family.
In 1990, he opened his own business, Brummer’s Chocolates, in Vermilion, Ohio.
For nearly 30 years he, along with his wife, Sandy, and their son Chris, were the proud owners of Brummer’s Chocolates in Vermilion. It was there that he formed many dear friendships and fell in love with the community and its people.
After retirement in 2019, not by choice, but from the advice of his doctors, he and Sandy were introduced to Bonita (beautiful) Springs by his dear friend, Crist Winterstein, and lived there for five years before recently moving back to Ohio to live near Chris and his family.
Bob had a few loves other than making candy… golf, fishing, and car shows (particularly those featuring Corvettes) were some of them, but his greatest joy came from his twin grandchildren, Miles and Griffin.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Sandy (Lane) Brummer of Delaware, his son Christopher (Kristin) Brummer and two grandsons, Miles and Griffin, from Plain City, Ohio.
He also leaves behind his sister, Edna Coyle of Flanders, New Jersey, along with her children, Kate, Chris, and Dana, sisters-in-law, Theresa Brummer of Vero Beach,
Florida, Ellen Brummer of Brick, New Jersey, and her daughter, Bridget, Connie ( Jim) Hormell of Vermilion and their son, David and daughter, Jennifer, brothers-in law, Joe Lane of Sandusky, Ohio (daughter Josie), Tom (Donna) Lane of Columbus, Ohio (son Bryan and daughter Allison), and Robert (Christine) Lane of Vermilion (son Tim).
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick, and Edna (Meyer) Brummer, brothers Fred L. Brummer and George C. Brummer, and aunt and uncle, Rita and Charlie Brummer.
Visitation will be on April 24th from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm and 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm at Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 25, 2025, at 11:00 am at the funeral home with Pastor Heidi Strickler officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Breakthrough T1D (previously known as the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation), P.O. Box 5042, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5042, or the American Kidney Fund, 11921 Rockville Pike, Suite 300, Rockville, MD. 20852.
