This year, Halloween in Vermilion is shaping up to be a special night for both families and football fans. The city has confirmed that Trick-or-Treat will be held Friday, October 31, 2025, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. — and that same night could also mark the opening round of the Sailors’ playoff run.
If Vermilion secures a home playoff game, the Vermilion High School Athletic Department plans to make sure no child misses out on the Halloween fun. Children arriving at the stadium gates in costume will receive candy as part of a special “Trick-or-Treat at the Gates” event, organized by Athletic Director Andrew Stillman and his team.
The initiative turns what could have been a scheduling conflict into a family-friendly celebration of community spirit, allowing residents to enjoy both the Sailors’ playoff excitement and the city’s traditional Halloween festivities.
For those looking to celebrate early in case of an away game, several Trunk-or-Treat events are planned in the days leading up to Halloween:
- American Legion Auxiliary – October 25
- Vermilion First Assembly of God – October 25
- VES and SMS PTO Trunk-or-Treat – October 28 (VES and SMS families only)
The city also reminds residents to stay safe with tips for trick-or-treating, including accompanying young children, using sidewalks, avoiding dark areas, and encouraging drivers to slow down and stay alert.
With Sailor football, community trunk-or-treats, and citywide candy routes all lined up, Vermilion families have plenty of ways to celebrate together this Halloween.
