Storm knocks down trees, floods residences, and damages roads in multiple areas
A fast-moving storm brought heavy rain and strong winds to Vermilion Township over the weekend, flooding roads, damaging property, and leaving tree debris across multiple neighborhoods. Township Trustee Ken Baughman confirmed the widespread nature of the damage and invited Vermilion Daily to drive through the area to observe the conditions firsthand.
The impact was seen across several township roads.

Cherry Road experienced roadway flooding consistent with past drainage concerns. Darrow Road had multiple residences take on water. Thompson Road suffered from shoulder washouts, while Stanley and Barnes Roads both saw a combination of flooding, erosion, and extensive tree debris. At the end of Barnes Road, a Erie County sheriff’s deputy was observed assisting a tractor operator in clearing a downed tree. Tree Removal crews had multiple trucks working at the intersection of West Lake Road and Barnes Road, where cleanup crews were actively at work.
Tree damage, storm debris and road washouts were present along nearly every roadway we traveled. The combination of water accumulation, runoff issues, and storm debris highlighted ongoing infrastructure vulnerabilities that affect more than any single neighborhood.
Township officials are expected to continue assessing damage in the coming days. Residents who experienced storm-related impacts are encouraged to contact the township office. Updates on cleanup and road repairs will be provided as efforts move forward.
