he City of Vermilion has made it easier than ever for residents to protect their privacy with an updated ‘Do Not Knock’ registry, now available online. Previously, the Vermilion Police Department’s dispatch staff handled both solicitor permits and ‘Do Not Knock’ applications, but the city has shifted the process to an automated system to allow dispatchers to focus on emergency response.
Thanks to Administrative Assistant Jody Booker, residents can now register their addresses from the comfort of their homes, eliminating the need for in-person visits to the police department. The change has already seen an overwhelming response—311 applications were submitted within the first 24 hours of the online system’s launch.

Those who sign up will receive a confirmation message and a reminder to renew their registration annually. The ‘Do Not Knock’ list is publicly posted and provided to all approved solicitors. Currently, nine solicitors are registered under the new system, including TruGreen, and all applicants undergo background checks before receiving a permit.

Even if residents have previously signed up, the city is requesting new registrations to ensure the list is current. To register or check the list of permitted solicitors, visit the City of Vermilion’s website.
