Vermilion Township Trustee Roger Scott has officially resigned from his position as of April 6, 2025. His departure follows recent public concern surrounding the way a February trustee meeting was conducted, which led to some residents calling for his resignation. While no formal reason has been given, the decision marks a significant shift for the township’s leadership. His resignation was discovered after visiting the Township’s website and seeing the vacancy.
Under Ohio law, the two remaining trustees — Kenn Baughman and Don Rowe Sr. — have 30 days from the date of resignation to appoint a replacement. The trustees will hold a public meeting to discuss the appointment, with the date and time to be announced soon. If a consensus is not reached within the 30-day window, the responsibility of naming a new trustee will fall to the Erie County probate judge.

As part of procedural updates, Vermilion Township has also introduced a supplemental meeting on the third Wednesday of each month, to be held as needed. The next potential supplemental meeting would fall on April 23, 2025.
Though no official statement was issued, many in the community have publicly expressed appreciation for Scott’s years of service. His resignation marks the end of an era, and the beginning of a new chapter in township governance.
As Vermilion Township undergoes this leadership transition, the direction of the board is beginning to shift. With a trustee seat now open and the November election on the horizon, residents have a unique opportunity to shape the future of their community. The decisions made in the coming months — both by trustees and voters — will play a significant role in determining the path the township takes moving forward.
You say the next potential meeting for the township is April 20, 2025. That would be Easter Sunday. Did you mean April 16th?
