Ohio has introduced a new feature allowing residents to add their driver’s license or state ID to their Apple Wallet. This initiative, announced by Governor Mike DeWine and Lt. Governor Jon Husted, enables Ohioans to use their mobile IDs at select businesses, apps, and TSA security checkpoints, including at John Glenn Columbus International Airport and Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport.
The rollout is part of the InnovateOhio initiative aimed at modernizing state services. The digital IDs can be used in various settings, including bars and restaurants that support tap-to-pay technology. However, it’s important to note that drivers are still required to carry their physical licenses, as police officers will expect to see a plastic card during traffic stops .
Ohio is among the few states to adopt this feature, joining Arizona, Georgia, Maryland, and Colorado. The state has also introduced the Ohio Mobile ID Check app to help businesses securely verify customers’ mobile IDs using an iPhone.
