Unexpected Fire Alarm at Vermilion High Turned Fire Drill

A routine day at Vermilion High School was briefly interrupted when the fire alarm unexpectedly sounded. Vermilion Fire Department (VFD) responded quickly, ensuring that students and staff were safe as they evacuated the building. Fortunately, there was no fire, and everyone was able to return to class soon after the building was cleared.

As it turns out, the alarm was triggered by a malfunction in the school’s alarm system. Principal Jennifer Benge expressed her pride in how students and staff handled the situation, with everyone calmly evacuating and following procedures. The silver lining? This incident counts as the required fire drill for the start of the school year, meaning one less drill to worry about.

I had a chance to speak with VLSD Superintendent Dr. Hile, who kindly updated me on the situation while I was picking up my daughter for early release. Despite the unexpected disruption, it’s good to know that the school community is prepared and ready to handle emergencies.

Safe Harbor, the company responsible for the alarm system, is already on site, working to fix the issue so it doesn’t reoccur.
