VERMILION — As she concludes nearly four decades of public service, Vermilion Finance Director Amy Hendricks is closing out her career with statewide recognition for the city’s financial operations.

The Ohio Auditor of State recently awarded the City of Vermilion Finance Department a Clean Audit Award with Distinction, placing the city among a limited number of Ohio municipalities to receive the designation. According to the Auditor of State’s office, only about 10 percent of municipalities earn the distinction in a given audit cycle. This marks the third time Vermilion’s finance department has received the award.

Hendricks’ final day with the city is today. She has served as Vermilion’s Director of Finance since 2018 and previously worked as treasurer and chief financial officer for Vermilion Local Schools and Fairview Park City Schools. Her public-sector finance career spans nearly 40 years.

The Clean Audit Award with Distinction reflects a financial audit with no findings for recovery and no significant deficiencies, indicating accurate financial reporting, effective internal controls and compliance with state requirements.

In a phone conversation, Hendricks said she is looking forward to retirement and plans to spend time traveling and being with family and friends. She said she intends to remain in the area and expressed appreciation for the opportunity to spend her career in public service.

Hendricks credited the finance department staff for maintaining the standards required to earn the award, noting that consistent attention to detail and compliance is a daily effort.

The city is expected to announce a new finance director on Friday.
