Vermilion Fire Department Incidents
The Vermilion Fire Department responded to three EMS assist calls between July 19 and July 25. These calls demonstrate the coordination and preparedness of our department when working alongside local EMS to ensure timely and effective emergency care.

Call Summary
July 23, 10:28 a.m. – Exchange Street
Responded to assist EMS with a male patient in possible full cardiac arrest. Two trucks arrived with two trained personnel.
July 24, 5:52 a.m. – Claus Road
Assisted EMS with a full arrest involving a male patient. Two trucks responded, providing five personnel on scene.
July 24, 7:07 p.m. – Liberty Avenue
Assisted with safely moving a female patient who was unable to walk. One truck arrived with five personnel.
Why You Might See a Fire Engine at a Medical Call
Residents may occasionally see a fire engine respond to what appears to be a medical call. This is part of a well-established system of emergency care delivery designed to provide the fastest and most comprehensive response possible.
Firefighters in Vermilion are cross-trained in emergency medical response and often arrive with life-saving tools and additional personnel. Fire apparatus carry essential equipment such as defibrillators, trauma kits, and lifting assistance devices that can support EMS crews during critical situations.
Medical calls can escalate quickly, and having multiple trained responders on scene helps ensure patient care is delivered safely and efficiently. The collaboration between fire and EMS personnel is an important part of the city’s emergency readiness strategy.
