VERMILION, OH – The Vermilion Police Department (VPD) has announced the arrest of a local man following a cybercrime investigation initiated by a tip from the Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force.
According to the VPD, the department received a Cyber Tipline Report regarding allegations of child pornography crimes. Sgt. Reising, who handles ICAC investigations for the department, launched an extensive investigation that ultimately led to a search warrant being issued for the suspect’s residence.

On the morning of March 12, 2025, VPD officers and detectives executed the search warrant at a residence on Altamont Road. During the operation, they arrested 40-year-old Matthew G. Rich of Vermilion. A search of the home followed his apprehension.
Rich has been charged with two counts of Pandering Sexually Oriented Matter Involving a Minor, both classified as second-degree felonies. He was taken to jail and is being held without bond pending his initial court appearance in Vermilion Municipal Court, scheduled for March 18, 2025, at 2:00 PM.
According to inmate records, Rich remains in custody with no bond set at this time. VPD has stated that the investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be forthcoming.

Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the evidence collected during the search or potential additional charges. Law enforcement officials emphasize the critical role of cybercrime tip reporting in protecting minors and ensuring that those who engage in such offenses are brought to justice.
The VPD encourages anyone with information regarding crimes against children to report it immediately to the appropriate authorities.
