Vermilion Police Blotter 4/16 & 4/17

The Vermilion Police Department works tirelessly to keep our community safe. Below are some of the most notable incidents reported between April 16 and April 17, 2024.

Wednesday, April 16

  • Electrical Fire – Lorain Drive (10:46 p.m.)
    A homeowner reported a fire where exterior electrical wires briefly caught fire. Ohio Edison confirmed damage but no injuries were reported.
  • Car Reported Stolen – South Shore Court (2:38 p.m.)
    A woman reported her 2015 brown Nissan Sentra missing. Officers later located the vehicle at BP — it had been left there by her husband.
  • Juveniles on Train Tracks – Main Street (4:00 p.m.)
    A concerned caller reported two children playing on railroad tracks. Officers responded but could not locate the juveniles.
  • 911 Misdial – Kingston of Vermilion (9:33 p.m.)
    An elderly resident called 911 about an unwanted person. Staff confirmed there was no emergency.
  • Protection Order Violation – Village Inn (4:30 p.m.)
    Officers responded after the caller reported that someone under a protection order was present in their hotel room.

Thursday, April 17

  • Gunshots Reported – Oakwood Drive (4:01 p.m.)
    A caller reported hearing gunshots nearby. Officers determined the noise likely came from outside city limits; no threat found.
  • Protection Order Arrest – Village Inn (9:06 p.m.)
    A woman reportedly returned to a room and physically removed a male occupant in violation of a protection order. She was arrested.
  • Sovereign Citizen Encounter – Boat Ramp (1:03 p.m.)
    Officers spoke with an individual who questioned vehicle registration laws. Officers explained legal requirements under Ohio law.
  • Warrant Arrest – Main & Ohio Streets (7:29 a.m.)
    A man was taken into custody without incident on an active warrant out of Cuyahoga County.
  • Unsecured Business – Quaker Steak & Lube (3:37 a.m.)
    Officers found an unlocked door during a foot patrol. The building was cleared and re-secured by a key holder.
