The following incidents were reported by the Vermilion Police Department between July 7 and July 13, 2025. This summary is provided by Police Chief Chris Hartung and includes a range of public safety matters, from welfare checks and fraud to a homicide investigation.

July 7, 2025

  • Adams Street (1100 block) – Officers assisted EMS with a transport to Mercy Hospital.
  • Ferndale Drive (700 block) – Officers responded to a disturbance; the parties were interviewed and separated.
  • Liberty Ave – A driver stopped for a moving violation was arrested for driving under suspension.

July 8, 2025

  • Liberty Ave – A citizen turned in a found credit card, which was returned to its rightful owner.

July 9, 2025

  • Berkshire Road – Report of a motor vehicle accident.
  • Main Street (400 block) – A set of car keys was turned in and held for safekeeping.
  • River Bridge – Caller reported juveniles jumping off the bridge. Officers were unable to locate them, but a witness said they swam away.
  • Park Drive (5000 block) – Neighbor dispute reported.

July 10, 2025

  • Ferndale Drive (500 block) – Officers responded to a domestic violence incident in which a woman was shot and killed. The male suspect was arrested for aggravated murder and transported to the Lorain County Jail.
  • Nantucket Drive (400 block) – Disturbance reported; parties were separated.
  • South Shore Court (500 block) – Telecommunications harassment complaint.

July 11, 2025

  • Liberty Ave – Report of a motor vehicle accident.

July 12, 2025

  • Ford Lane (4300 block) – Fraud complaint.
  • Delamere Road (300 block) – Unruly juvenile complaint.
  • South Street (5600 block) – Criminal damage involving a vehicle window.
  • Vermilion Road (1200 block) – Telecommunications harassment complaint.
  • SR60 – Motor vehicle accident.
  • Liberty Ave (2800 block) – Welfare check requested; subject was safe.

July 13, 2025

  • Cummings Road (300 block) – A caller reported a lost dog possibly being held by a neighbor. While the dog was not located, one person was arrested on an active warrant.
  • Liberty Ave – Another driver was stopped for a moving violation and arrested for driving under suspension.
