Vermilion Police Department Blotter: June 16–22, 2025

The following incidents were reported by the Vermilion Police Department for the week of June 16 through June 22, 2025: From the Desk of Vermilion Police Chief Chris Hartung

June 16, 2025
0421 – 1000 block of Douglas Street: Subject turned in a found iPod on the sidewalk.
1516 – Main Street Beach: Caller reporting people on the break wall spray painting a light. The suspects were detained and cited for criminal mischief.
1648 – 700 block of Vermilion Road: Caller requested a welfare check on a subject for mental issues. The subject checked ok.
1802 – Main Street Beach: Parking violations

June 17, 2025
1228 – 400 block of Erie Road: Caller requesting a welfare check on a subject with medical issues. The subject was located and transported to Mercy for evaluation.
1400 – 400 block of Ewa Yea Street: Fraud complaint
1932 – 1000 block of Sanford Street: Caller reporting a burglary to the residence by a known subject who called the complainant and advised them to leave the house because another person was coming over and was angry for some perceived slight. The caller remained at the residence and a short time later heard the suspect entering the residence by a window. The suspect had left the area prior to officers’ arrival.

June 18, 2025
2340 – Lorain PD advised they had the two suspects from the prior burglary complaint in custody. The two suspects were picked up on warrants and transported to the Erie County jail pending arraignment.

June 19, 2025
0938 – 3500 block of Edgewater: Telecommunications harassment
1405 – Toledo Street: Motor vehicle accident
1423 – Woodlands Drive: Caller reporting a stop sign had been hit by an unknown subject. Street Department advised.
2032 – Douglas Street: Subject observed walking was known to have an active arrest warrant from Ashland County. The suspect was placed under arrest and released to Ashland County S.O. for further disposition.

June 20, 2025
1345 – 600 block of Grand Street: Units were dispatched to a business for two subjects arguing over personal matters. Both subjects were interviewed, and a male was trespass warned to not return to the business.
1652 – Sandusky Street: Motor vehicle accident
1801 – 5200 block of South Street: Civil complaint over custody
1821 – 1500 block of Vermilion Road: Unruly juvenile complaint
1845 – 3500 block of Cooper Foster: Caller reporting domestic violence. Both parties were interviewed, and a charge of domestic violence was made against one person.

June 21, 2025
0522 – 800 block of Douglas Street: Caller reporting a suspected theft of a cell phone. The phone was later found and turned in after been found in a yard. The phone was returned to the owner.
1403 – Main Street Beach: Report of subjects fighting in the upper parking lot after a road rage incident. All parties were interviewed and separated.

June 22, 2025
0914 – 700 block of Main Street: Caller reporting criminal damaging over garage sale items that had been smashed some time over the night.
1159 – Romp’s: Caller reporting an elderly couple had been on the lake overnight and had been towed in. The vessel left from Lorain last night and became lost and ran out of gas. The subjects were on the lake for 21 hours. One subject was transported to Mercy for evaluation. Damage was observed to the boat where it may have drifted into some rocks. ODNR officers arrived on scene and assumed the rest of the investigation.
1307 – 600 block of South Shore Court: Fraud complaint
1906 – Liberty Ave: Motor vehicle accident
1933 – SR2: Several callers reporting a car driving in the wrong lane. The suspect vehicle was located and crashed into several vehicles before wrecking. The suspect attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended. The suspect was transported to a medical facility for evaluation. Several charges pending.
