A Vermilion man has been arrested and charged with aggravated murder following a deadly domestic violence incident early Thursday morning on Ferndale Avenue.

According to Vermilion Police Chief Chris Hartung, officers were dispatched at 1:46 a.m. to 525 Ferndale Avenue for a report of a male suspect armed with a handgun and threatening a female inside the residence. As officers arrived on scene, the suspect discharged multiple rounds, striking the woman twice.

Police say the suspect then attempted to shoot himself in the head but pulled away at the last moment. He was taken into custody at the scene.

Officers and first responders attempted life-saving measures on the female victim, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect, identified as Bryan J. Hall, 35, of Ferndale Avenue, was arrested for aggravated murder and transported to the Lorain County Jail, where he awaits arraignment. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The investigation is ongoing and is being conducted by Vermilion Police detectives in coordination with the Lorain County Prosecutor’s Office, Lorain County Coroner’s Office, and Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) crime scene technicians.
