Voters rejected the Vermilion Local School District’s proposed $47 million bond levy in the May 6, 2025 election, with unofficial results showing 910 in favor and 1,361 against. The margin of defeat was nearly 20 percentage points.
The levy appeared on the ballot in both Erie and Lorain counties. It called for a 3.91-mill property tax to support construction, renovations, and facility improvements throughout the district.
Unofficial results by county:
- Erie County: 633 yes, 923 no
- Lorain County: 277 yes, 438 no
Superintendent Dr. David Hile issued a brief statement Wednesday morning, thanking Campaign Committee Chair Dana Decker and her team “who worked tirelessly for the last few months to communicate to our community the need for this bond levy.”
He added, “Yesterday’s election outcome does not change the need for additional revenues to address our facilities going forward. The Board will need to have time to discuss and decide next steps.”
There has been some early discussion in the community about possibly placing the bond issue back on the ballot in November. As of now, neither the district nor the levy campaign has announced any formal plans.
In the lead-up to the vote, community members raised concerns about the timing of the election, the district’s rising property tax revenues, and transparency around how the levy was introduced. These topics were discussed during public meetings and in letters to the editor.

The results will remain unofficial until certified by the boards of elections.
