Two Vermilion Sailors athletes made waves this past week with standout performances that showcased their talent, grit, and determination. From the desk of Vermilion Sailor Athletics Director Andy Stillman.

Sophie Habermehl has been no stranger to competition this school year, competing in four varsity sports as just a freshman. But this past weekend, she made her mark on the wrestling mat in a big way. Competing at 155 lbs., Sophie entered her sectional unseeded with an 18-22 record—only to leave as the sectional runner-up!

She dominated her championship prelim match with a fall, then pulled off back-to-back upsets—defeating the #1 seed with a 5-2 decision and the #4 seed with a 2-0 decision to punch her ticket to the finals. While she fell just short of the championship, her performance proved that she is part of the next wave of talented girls wrestling for Vermilion.

Meanwhile, on the lanes, Bella Phillips delivered an unforgettable performance at the Division II District Tournament. Bowling games of 170, 232, and 258 for a 660 series, Bella secured her spot in the state championship tournament! The junior standout will compete for a state title on Friday, February 28th, at HP Lanes in Columbus. Bella is the daughter of Bob and Olivia Phillips.
With their incredible performances, Sophie and Bella have shown the strength of Vermilion athletics. Sailor Nation will be cheering them on as they continue to chase greatness!

Great Job Sophie and Bella and Gooooo Sailors!
