The Vermilion Sailors continue to shine as two standout athletes, Cora Frederick and Bella Phillips, made their mark at the state level this past week. Their dedication, perseverance, and competitive spirit exemplify what it means to be a Sailor.

Cora Frederick – Wrestling
Junior Cora Frederick has once again proven herself among Ohio’s best. For the second year in a row, she is a state qualifier, securing her spot with a third-place finish in the 130 lb. weight class at the Girls Findlay District. Cora dominated the competition, going 4-1 on the day with three falls and a decision. With a season record of 40-11, including 34 bonus point wins (29 falls, 2 technical falls, and 3 major decisions), she now heads to Columbus as one of the top 16 girls in the state at her weight class, aiming for a place on the podium.

Bella Phillips – Bowling
Bella Phillips made a statement at the Division II State High School Bowling Tournament with an impressive performance. Rolling games of 178, 194, and a stellar 246, Bella finished with a 618 series, securing 11th place out of 96 competitors. Even more impressive, she achieved this despite not feeling her best that morning. A junior and the daughter of Bob and Olivia Phillips, Bella’s determination and skill on the lanes have set a high standard for Vermilion bowling.

Both of these athletes have demonstrated exceptional resilience and talent, making their school and community proud. As Cora prepares for the state wrestling tournament and Bella reflects on her outstanding bowling season, Vermilion Sailors fans will be cheering them on every step of the way. Congratulations to both and Gooooo Sailors!
