Where to Find Food Assistance and Ways to Give Back in Vermilion

For Vermilion residents facing tough times, several local organizations provide free food, meals, and essential items throughout the year. Each program has its own eligibility guidelines but all share one goal: helping neighbors in need.

Salvation Army Food Pantry
• Location: 4560 Liberty Avenue, Vermilion
• Hours: Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. (except the third Friday) and the first and third Tuesdays from 5 to 7 p.m.
• Eligibility: Serves Vermilion residents. Photo ID and proof of address such as a utility bill are required.
• Details: Offers groceries, senior food boxes, and emergency assistance for families in hardship.
• How to Help: Donations of canned goods, non-perishable foods, and household staples are welcome. Financial gifts can be made through the Salvation Army Vermilion page.

United Church of Christ, Congregational Food Pantry
• Location: 990 State Street, Vermilion
• Hours: Third Friday of each month from 10 to 11:30 a.m. (second Friday in December); emergency help Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• Eligibility: Serves families within the Vermilion School District area. ID or proof of residency may be required.
• Details: Provides boxed and canned food, cereal, and hygiene supplies for qualifying families.
• How to Help: Non-perishable food and monetary donations can be dropped off during office hours or online at vermilioncongregational.org.

Grace Community Kitchen at Trinity Lutheran Church
• Location: 3747 Liberty Avenue, Vermilion
• Hours: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 to 6 p.m. (carryout available)
• Eligibility: Open to all; no income verification or residency requirement.
• Details: Provides free hot meals twice a week. Volunteers prepare and serve dinners for anyone who attends.

Ritter Public Library’s Little Free Fridge
• Location: 5680 Liberty Avenue, outside Ritter Public Library
• Hours: Open during library hours
• Eligibility: No restrictions; take what you need, give what you can.
• Details: Stocked daily with refrigerated and frozen food items for anyone in need. A community-run initiative supported by local donations.

Essentials Pantry at First Baptist Church
• Location: 6716 West River Road, Vermilion
• Hours: Third Tuesday of each month, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 to 6:30 p.m.
• Eligibility: Open to anyone in need of household essentials; no proof of income required.
• Details: Operated by First Baptist Church, the pantry provides hygiene items, cleaning supplies, paper goods, and personal-care products. These items cannot be purchased with food assistance programs.
• How to Help: The pantry accepts unopened household and hygiene products as well as financial donations. More information can be found at cityofvermilionohio.gov.
