Recognizing the Future: Citizens of the Month

The evening started with a highlight that never fails to bring smiles: the recognition of December’s Citizens of the Month. Students from kindergarten through third grade took the stage to share their dreams, which ranged from becoming scientists and senators to working at McDonald’s. Their enthusiasm was a reminder of the bright futures ahead.

Legislative Updates

Board member Krystal Russell provided updates on recent legislative changes impacting schools:

• House Bill 78: Retired teachers could soon serve on the State Retirement System Board.

• House Bill 432: Changes are coming to credentialing pathways for career tech educators.

• House Bill 206: Adjustments to expulsion policies for safety-related incidents are on the way.

• Senate Bill 154: Space Force is now officially part of the U.S. Armed Forces definitions.

While not the most thrilling part of the meeting, these updates show the wheels of progress are turning.

Holiday Cheer from the Choir

The fifth and sixth-grade choir, led by music teacher Olivia Eldridge, performed a lively rendition of Jingle Bells. Their energy set a festive tone for the meeting and provided a sneak peek of their upcoming holiday concert.
