Big plays highlight performances on field, court
VERMILION — Sophomore running back Landon Mooney and senior volleyball player Haley Stepp are this week’s Sailor Standout Athletes of the Week after delivering strong performances for Vermilion.
Landon Mooney
Mooney powered the Sailors’ rushing attack with 144 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries during a 41-7 victory over Firelands.
He averaged 13.1 yards per carry, consistently breaking through the defense and creating big plays. His speed, vision and explosiveness provided a spark for the offense throughout the game.
Haley Stepp
Stepp was a key contributor across four matches, helping the Sailors earn their first victory of the season Saturday.
She anchored the back row with 34 digs and recorded 44 successful serve receptions. She also contributed three aces and four assists.
Stepp’s steady defensive play and ability to keep rallies alive helped Vermilion throughout a busy week.
