Sailors recognize two standout athletes

Volleyball milestone, football performance highlight week

VERMILION — Two Vermilion High School athletes delivered standout performances this week, with one reaching a major career milestone and the other earning Player of the Week honors.

Haley Stepp

Senior volleyball libero Haley Stepp recorded her 1,000th career dig Tuesday, Oct. 6, adding another achievement to an impressive season.

Stepp also broke the school record for digs in a single match for the second time this season, after tying the record earlier in the year.

Her performance helped lead a strong defensive effort as the Sailors recorded 144 team digs, establishing a new school record for digs in a single match.

Daniel Roy

Junior football team captain Daniel Roy earned Player of the Week honors following another strong defensive performance in Vermilion’s victory over Port Clinton.

Roy recorded 12 tackles and a quarterback pressure in the win while also contributing offensively as a tight end.

The recognition followed an equally impressive performance the previous week, when Roy finished with 15 tackles and a fumble recovery.

The back-to-back performances highlighted Roy’s contributions on both sides of the football and his importance to the Sailors this season.
