Vermilion Police Blotter: June 30–July 6, 2025

The following incidents were reported by the Vermilion Police Department during the week of June 30 through July 6, 2025. The blotter is compiled from information provided by Police Chief Chris Hartung.

June 30, 2025

  • 9:21 AM – Reports of coal dust from a passing train blew off the Vermilion River Trestle into the river and nearby marinas. Incident command was turned over to the Fire Chief. EMA and EPA responded, and Norfolk Southern sent representatives to the scene.
  • 2:58 PM – 5200 block of South Street: Criminal damaging complaint involving lawn damage.

July 1, 2025

  • 1:56 PM – 3200 block of Liberty Ave: Abandoned vehicle reported in a parking lot. It was cited and towed.
  • 11:31 PM – SR2: Vehicle fire reported; determined to be caused by locked brakes. Vehicle was towed.

July 2, 2025

  • 11:11 AM – 400 block of Fairfax Road: Theft of personal items reported at a residence.
  • 1:20 PM – Liberty Ave: Motor vehicle accident.

July 3, 2025

  • 1:54 PM – 3500 block of Edgewater Drive: Individual arrested on a Strongsville PD warrant and turned over for further processing.
  • 8:06 PM – 4700 block of Liberty Ave: Theft of items from a boat. A suspect was identified, and the case was forwarded to the detective bureau.

July 4, 2025

  • 3:28 AM – Sherod Park: Parking complaint.
  • 6:50 AM – Liberty Ave: Motor vehicle accident.
  • 1:44 PM – Birchview Drive: Parking complaint.
  • Multiple fireworks complaints were reported throughout the day.

July 5, 2025

  • 11:00 AM – 1200 block of Vermilion Road: Report of an assault during a boat off-loading dispute. One man was charged and transported to Erie County Jail.
  • 12:06 PM – Birchview Drive: Parking complaint; citation issued.
  • 12:34 PM – Liberty Ave: Motor vehicle accident.
  • 1:17 PM – 2400 block of North Ridge Road: Road rage incident between a driver and a pedestrian. The driver was located; the pedestrian was not.
  • 9:08 PM – Liberty Ave: Motor vehicle accident.
  • 10:47 PM – Main Street: Parking violation; citation issued.

July 6, 2025

  • 1:04 PM – 4200 block of Liberty Ave: Male subject trespass-warned after making inappropriate comments to a business employee.
  • 1:57 PM – 5600 block of South Street: Civil dispute between two individuals; parties were separated.
  • 3:38 PM – 300 block of Erie Road: Another civil dispute reported; parties separated.
  • 4:31 PM – Oakview Drive: Fight in the street over a dog-related issue; parties separated.
  • 10:56 PM – Multiple fireworks complaints throughout the city.
