Updated riverfront plans presented to board
VERMILION — Plans for an estimated $1 million overhaul of Rotary Park are taking shape, with proposed improvements including riverfront access, new seating areas, shoreline stabilization and expanded parking.
Vermilion Parks and Recreation Board member Mark Musial presented updated design concepts during the board’s Tuesday, Oct. 20, meeting, outlining the latest developments in the Rotary Club’s effort to revitalize the park.
The project, previously estimated at $750,000 to $1 million, is intended to coincide with the Vermilion Rotary Club’s 100th anniversary in 2028.
Musial said preliminary plans call for changing parallel parking along West River Road to angled spaces, adding a riverfront landing for kayakers and installing three swinging benches overlooking the railroad bridge.
The proposal also includes shoreline stabilization, a small shelter, landscaping and improvements to walking paths.
The club continues to explore grants and donations to finance the project, which remains in the planning stages.
