Commissioners recognize community improvement efforts
VERMILION — Erie County commissioners recognized several Vermilion volunteer organizations Monday, Oct. 19, for their contributions to the city’s beautification, arts, traditions and community development.
Commissioners Steve Shoffner and Matt Old hosted a proclamation ceremony during a portion of their regular meeting at Harbourtown Fine Arts Center.
The recognition included Main Street Vermilion and its initiatives, Vermilion in Bloom, Public Art Vermilion and the Arts Guild of Vermilion, along with Flags on Liberty and Shore Thing Vermilion.
“Strong, beautiful communities are built by people who are willing to invest their time and energy into making a difference,” Old said. “The charm and character of Vermilion are a direct result from your dedication and hard work.”
The organizations contribute to various aspects of community life.
Vermilion in Bloom focuses on beautification efforts, while Public Art Vermilion and the Arts Guild of Vermilion promote artistic expression and local creativity.
Flags on Liberty honors American traditions and military service members through patriotic flag displays.
Shore Thing Vermilion supports Main Street Beach through concession operations, beach maintenance and environmental stewardship.
Vermilion Mayor Russ Owens attended the ceremony and thanked the volunteers for their continued commitment to the community.
“Vermilion serves as the eastern gateway to Erie County, making it an important reflection of the beauty, character, and welcoming spirit of our entire community,” Owens said.
The commissioners also thanked the board of directors and officers of Harbourtown Fine Arts Center for hosting the gathering.
Owens emphasized that the work of local volunteers continues to make a difference throughout the city.
“Your efforts do not go unnoticed, and the positive impact you make is felt throughout the community,” Owens said. “I extend my sincere appreciation. We cannot and do not take it for granted.”
