Date: January 28, 2025, Vermilion, Ohio
Lorain native, and longtime Vermilion resident and businessman, Russ “Rusty” Owens, announces he will run for the office of Vermilion Mayor in 2025. Mr. Owens campaign will focus on two (2) main pillars: “Russ for Us” and “Vermilion First”.
Russ’s extensive business experience as CEO and Senior Level Executive of large consumer products companies will bring a set of “fresh eyes” and business approach to Vermilion. In those roles, Russ has successfully negotiated multi-million contracts with manufacturers, suppliers, logistic companies, governments, agencies, unions and retailors both domestically and internationally. His experience and entrepreneurial vision are what Vermilion needs to meet the challenges of delivering reasonable and fiscally responsible infrastructure improvement and generating incremental revenue to the city.
“Russ for Us” means that his administration will be open, transparent, accountable and obligated to all Vermilion residents and businesses. Business and Cities only grow when differing opinions are given equal voice and treatment. His administration will be empowered to work effectively and respectfully for all Vermilion citizens.
“Vermilion First” will utilize his business experience and strong negotiating skills to put Vermilion’s residents, Senior citizens, children and businesses as first stakeholders in all deals and ordinances. Vermilion First will not put the burden of a developer’s profit or Agency mandated costs on the backs of its taxpayers.
Russ’s love for Vermilion and its people fostered his decision to run. His daughter, Ava (20), was born and raised in Vermilion and is a sophomore at Miami University. Russ and Denise have traveled and lived all over our great country, from West Coast to East Coast and cities in between. The Owens family knows that Vermilion is a very special place with kind and caring people. Russ believes Vermilion deserves a transformational leader to shape it’s bright and vibrant future.
