“It Started in Our City”: Vermilion Police Help Catch Suspect in Horrific Livestream Case

A multi-state child exploitation investigation led by the FBI began right here in Vermilion, according to Police Chief Chris Hartung during his report to council at this week’s city council meeting.

The case resulted in the federal arrest of Onai Kedar Wilbur Wright, 25, of Bridgeport, Connecticut. Wright is accused of live-streaming sexually explicit acts with a 16-year-old girl on the app “Fambase.” He now faces federal charges of sexual exploitation of children and transporting a minor for illegal sexual activity — charges that carry minimum prison sentences of 10 to 15 years.

Chief Hartung told council that Sergeant Dale Reising of the Vermilion Police Department first identified suspicious behavior involving short-term rentals and quickly contacted the FBI. That cooperation triggered a full federal investigation.

“It started in our city,” Hartung said. “We worked with the FBI… it went to Norwalk, then Connecticut, and it worked out very well.”

The FBI tracked Wright to an Airbnb in Norwich, Connecticut, where he was arrested on March 14, 2025. Authorities also found the minor victim and two adult women at the scene.

The U.S. Department of Justice formally announced the charges in a press release on April 4, crediting police in Vermilion, Norwalk (OH), Norwich (CT), and the New London State’s Attorney’s Office for their assistance. The case is being prosecuted in Connecticut, with support from the Northern District of Ohio.
