Just after 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 1, a shed fire broke out in the southwest corner of a Fairfax Drive property, prompting a rapid response from both the Vermilion Fire Department and Vermilion Police.
According to Vermilion Fire Chief Bill Brown, firefighters arrived on scene at 7:31 a.m. to find the shed fully engulfed, with flames extending to two nearby fences. Crews from Engine 94 deployed a hoseline and quickly brought the fire under control.

A resident at the property, identified as Josiah Harader, told authorities he had a fire in an open fire pit near the shed the night before. He was subsequently cited by Vermilion Police for an open burn violation.
Automatic mutual aid was provided by departments from Vermilion Township, Amherst, and South Amherst, with all units cleared by 8:14 a.m.

No injuries were reported, and an investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
