Vermilion Police Blotter: July 21–27, 2025

Each week, the Vermilion Police Department works to protect and serve our community with professionalism and integrity. The following blotter provides a summary of notable incidents handled by officers between July 21 and July 27, 2025. These entries highlight a range of police activity including welfare checks, arrests, traffic stops, and investigations.

July 21, 2025

  • 1141 hours – 1000 block of Sweetbriar Drive: Welfare check requested. Subject was evaluated and referred to Adult Protective Services.
  • 1545 hours – 4700 block of Liberty Ave: Theft reported from a boat.
  • 1828 hours – 1500 block of Vermilion Road: Car versus deer accident reported.

July 22, 2025

  • 2141 hours – 1100 block of Jackson Street: Assault reported between neighbors. One suspect arrested and taken to Erie County Jail. Victim transported to Mercy Hospital.

July 23, 2025

  • 0407 hours – 2400 block of Brownhelm Station: Multiple callers reported shots fired. Investigation revealed several rounds had been discharged from a high-powered rifle into a residence. Suspects also fired shots on Sunnyside Road. Case remains under investigation.
  • 1012 hours – Liberty Ave: Motor vehicle accident.
  • 1029 hours – Liberty Ave: Motor vehicle accident.
  • 1308 hours – Jerusalem Road: Motor vehicle accident.
  • 1455 hours – Liberty Ave: Motor vehicle accident.
  • 1750 hours – 2900 Whispering Shores: Fraud complaint filed.
  • 1957 hours – 4400 block of Howard Drive: Domestic disturbance reported. Parties separated for the night after officers intervened.

July 24, 2025

  • 0526 hours – 2300 block of Claus Road: EMS assist with subject transported to Mercy for evaluation.
  • 0952 hours – 700 block of Main Street: Subject arrested on an active warrant.
  • 1219 hours – Liberty Ave: Parking violation. Citation issued.
  • 2032 hours – 300 block of Fairfax Road: Juvenile reported missing. Located and safely returned home.

July 25, 2025

  • 0539 hours – Lake Erie: Dock with jet ski reported drifting. Located and recovered by owner.
  • 0601 hours – Berkley Road: Subject arrested during traffic stop for active warrant.
  • 1129 hours – Liberty Ave: Motor vehicle accident.
  • 1240 hours – Lake Erie: Two vessels reported adrift. Located and found to be safely occupied.

July 26, 2025

  • 1000 hours – 400 block of Minnie WaWa: Fraud complaint received.
  • 1032 hours – 400 block of Niagara Road: Report of Civil Protection Order violation. Case under review for charges.
  • 1534 hours – 800 block of Aurora Drive: EMS assist with transport to Mercy.
  • 2159 hours – Liberty Ave: Driver stopped for speeding and running a red light. Initially uncooperative, later arrested for multiple violations and transported to Erie County Jail.

July 27, 2025

  • 0920 hours – 2600 block of Liberty Ave: Arrest made for an outstanding warrant from the State Highway Patrol.
  • 2127 hours – Liberty Ave: Motor vehicle accident.
  • 2237 hours – Liberty Ave: Motorcycle stop led to arrest for OVI. Loaded handgun found during stop. Suspect arrested for OVI and improper firearm handling and taken to Lorain County Jail.
