Ashlee Summer McPeak, 34, was known for her compassion, her spiritual outlook on life, and her deep love for her young daughter. Originally from Virginia, McPeak was visiting Ohio. She was departing to Tennessee to see her family the next day. Her life was cut short on July 10, 2025, when she was fatally shot in what authorities have described as a domestic violence incident.
Police arrested 35-year-old Bryan J. Hall at the scene. He was charged with aggravated murder, arraigned in Vermilion Municipal Court, and ordered held without bond. The case has since been transferred to the Lorain County Grand Jury for further review. As of this writing, a formal indictment has not yet been posted in the county docket.
McPeak’s young daughter was present during the tragedy. According to Vermilion Mayor Jim Forthofer, the girl was cared for at Fire Station 1 rather than the police station, in an effort to provide a quiet and secure space during an unimaginably traumatic time. She remained there under the supervision of first responders until family members arrived from Tennessee to bring her home.
A funeral service was held in Columbia, Tennessee, where McPeak’s family resides. She is remembered by her loved ones as kindhearted, intuitive, and deeply connected to those around her. In addition to her role as a mother, McPeak had a passion for history, spirituality, and guiding others through tarot and intuitive readings.
Her death has left a lasting mark on the Vermilion community, serving as a powerful reminder of the toll domestic violence can take on families and survivors. Community members have shared tributes in her memory on GunMemorial.org, honoring her life and the light she brought to others.
Bryan Hall is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. The investigation remains ongoing.
