VERMILION, Ohio — A serious crash at the BP Mickey Mart at the corner of Liberty Avenue and Nantucket Drive left one woman injured Monday afternoon.
According to Sergeant Holmes of the Vermilion Police Department, a silver mid-sized vehicle, believed to be a Chrysler 300, was heading eastbound on Liberty Avenue when the driver experienced a medical emergency. The vehicle ran through a stop sign, entered the gas station lot, and struck a fuel pump and the structural support for the carport awning.
The impact caused significant damage, prompting an immediate response from Vermilion Police, the Vermilion Fire Department, Fire Chief Bill Brown, and representatives from Cole’s Energy. A dislodged stop sign was also seen at the scene and was later repositioned by an officer.
Employees at the Mickey Mart were unharmed, and no explosion occurred. However, emergency crews treated the site as hazardous due to the compromised fuel infrastructure.
The driver, who was unconscious at the scene, was transported by Life Flight to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland. The helicopter launched from Vermilion Township’s designated landing zone. Her identity and current condition have not been released.
The incident remains under investigation, but police believe it was caused by a medical emergency.
