Jacob N. Bray, 18, of Sheffield Lake, has been indicted by a Lorain County grand jury in connection with the July 23 series of shootings in Vermilion.

Court records show Bray faces multiple charges, including felonious assault, improperly discharging a firearm into a habitation or school safety zone, several counts of discharging a firearm near prohibited premises, tampering with evidence, improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle, and furnishing a firearm to a minor.

The indictment follows an early-morning incident in which Vermilion police responded to four separate reports of gunfire between 3:23 a.m. and 5:23 a.m. on July 23. One home on Brownhelm Station Road was struck several times while the homeowner was inside, though no injuries were reported.

Police said Bray and a 16-year-old accomplice were identified with the help of surveillance footage and license plate reader data. Warrants served in Lorain and Sheffield Lake later led to the seizure of multiple firearms.

Bray was originally charged in Vermilion Municipal Court and released on bond before the case was transferred to the county level. He is now scheduled to appear in Lorain County Common Pleas Court.

Bray was previously charged by Vermilion police following the July 23 shootings. Read more about those initial charges here. Earlier coverage also detailed the recovery of firearms and the identification of additional suspects. That story can be found here.
